Hi,
This year, initially I had planned to submit my application for ISB, in the first round, but during the course of the application process I realised that I would require some more time, so now I am all set for the applying in the second round. I have not yet submitted my application for the first round.Do I need to start afresh with a new application account or I can carry on with the same account?

Since you have high work exp, GMAT is the only current indicator of your academic potential. Thus, a better score will definitely add strength to your application. Secondly, competition is not in our hands. You might loose out because of your GMAT score in the highly competitive applicant pool.

You have a good profile. Your exp of 2+ years will not be a hindrance in any way. You should dfinitely apply to ISB. However, I would like to add that the admissions to ISB are very competitive and your actual admissions will depend on the quality of your application which include essays, your past academic record, your GMAT score, the recommendation you get from the reviewers whom we will contact and your performance in the interview ( assuming you are called for the admission interview).

I took my GMAT on 16th Aug and scored 720(50Q,38V) AWA-6.
Background :
I have a work-ex of 22 months in one of the leading MNCs in India as of now.(this would be 2yrs by October when I am planning to apply to ISB)
I completed my Engineering from one of the premier institutes in India with an above average GPA of 8.2/10.
My academic track record has been very good throughout my career(Scored above 85% most of the times).
I was actively involved in organizing national level fests at college level being front-runner for same, have completed certifications in financial markets(My interest is in Finance), certificates at national level in various competetive exams during my schooling years and received the highest proficiency award in the school. These are some of of my achievements.

Please let me know whether my profile would be suitable for ISB. My main concern was that I would be having an experience of just over 2 yrs at the time of applying. Is this going to be a hindrance.

Maverick,

The average work exp of the current batch is 5 years and the batch age ranges from 23-51 years. Prima facie, you fit into the ISB profile. You only need to take the GMAT test which requires a lot preparation. I will suggest that you visit the site www.gmac.com and learn more about the test. There are various coaching centers like Kaplan, Princeton Review, Jamboree, Career Launcher, etc, that assist in GMAT preparation.

I would also like to highlight that the programme at ISB is very rigorous in content and structure. Students who join the ISB must possess an academic record that can convince the Admissions Committee of their ability to cope with the rigorous curriculum. Our evaluation therefore considers your undergraduate performance. However there is no cut-off score.

In case, you had an average academic record in the past, you can always make it up with a good GMAT score and a strong application. The ADCOM will also look at the depth and breadth of your work exp. While writing the application essays, make sure that you highlight your professional capabilities and leadership skills.

For Admissions deadline, please visit the link http://www.isb.edu/pgp/For_Indian_PassportHolders.Shtml

I'll refrain from mentioning the GMAT goofup. Could you also please clarify that although the score of 660 is below the last year's average, it by no means rejects your complete application, and you go through the complete application in a holistic way. As its not possible for me to retake the GMAT, and shall be applying with this score at round 1 only.

I will not advise you to mention the GMAT goof up in your application.

Prima facie I would say your profile would be suitable for admission to the ISB. Even though we have a holistic approach towards each application, the actual admission also depends on the applicant pool.

Please note that the average GMAT score in the IT applicant pool is 730. A good score strengthens your application but does not guarantee admission while a low score does not necessarily mean exclusion. The overall application would need to convince the Admissions Committee of the your suitability.

Harini,

It’s always better to apply early as the competition simply intensifies with each passing year. I think you will probably have to compete with less number of applicants in 2009 than 2011. Moreover, the average work experience of any MBA class in a global business school is 5-7 years. Only around 10% of the batch will have an experience of 8 plus years.

Also the question is, when should you do your MBA? This is something you need to ask yourself because you alone know whether the right time to pursue a management programme is now or a couple of years later. This is because people normally opt for a management programme when they have identified certain skill gaps. Essentially, you have to assess if there are any gaps between what you are at present and what you aspire to be in the future and if an MBA can bridge effectively the gap between these two levels.

Dear Sir,

I have done my Mechanical Engineering with 53 % and I got the experience from Satyam for 6 months as Sr. Technical Executive and 18 months of experience from Sytel as Sr. Technical Executive.

Is this experience works for me to get into ISB or do I need to have 2 years of experience from the same field which I have studied.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I gave the GMAT last month and got a score of 660/5.5. (Quant:49, Verbal:30). Here, I may mention that I couldn't complete the Quant section and in the test and hence my score came down a great deal...(should I mention this in the optional essay as well?)
My profile is something as follows:
MCA:79% from IP University
BSc:69% DU
12th:75%
10th:80%

Having 3 and 1/2 years of IT work exp as of now. But although its IT, the domain includes Telecom, Banking,Print Media, and have quite a bit of functional knowledge in these domains acquired during various trainings/induction processes.
Extra curricular: 2 Sun certifications(SCJP,SCWCD).
Have worked with 3 NGOs, including Ramakrishna Mission( will be highlighting upon that for sure in my applications),
Took part in Comp Quizzes in schools, participated in School skit, etc.

Currently I am awaiting the rec. letters from my manager/TL.

Could you please mention my chances as I would be applying online for round 1.

Thanks,

Dear Sir,
Iam a B'com graduate, with a very average academic record and over 6 years of exp in Insurance. Im currently working as a Branch Manager with one of india's most reputed brand handling 30 managers who have their respective teams. Had started of as a front liner and have grown in the organisation, have taken 4 promotions in 4 years and presently im the youngest BM countrywide. I have always been the best performer in my job sphere. I'm doing fine with my job and have come across suggestion from people that i shud go for a PG course to enhance my cross functional knowledge and to get a wider scope of future growth, and keeping in mind my obligations and time factor the best place coming to my mind is ISB.
Keeping in mind the requirements at ISB, the way i assess myself is that, i have been out of touch from studies for a long time, i do not have excellent essay writing skills.
The purpose of me going for a PG is to enhance my skills and broadening my prospects of growth. Keeping apart my academic front i have been very sucessful in my professional life at all positions that i have handled.

Kindly suggest do i fit into the ISB profile, if yes then what should be my course of action and by what timelines.

rgds...
