Hi

I have submitted for the 2009 intake. I have made a mistake in the application:
The tab under I had to fill the details of my reviewer, I have filled the " Relation with Reviwer" as "Supervisor" instead of "Previous Supervisor".
I realized this mistake after I had confirmed the details and after my recommendor had submitted the recommendation as well.

Please suggest if this mistake would go against my application. Should I send an official mail to PGAdmissions informing / admitting the mistake I have made? Would that help in anyway?

-Abhishek

Raghav,

You do not exactly fall under the IT applicant category. A score of around 700 will do you good.

Hima,

Appreciate your response. Got your message that the overall profile is what makes true impact rather than any one criterion.

I asked this question because I had seen your response to another question where you'd said: "Lately, the GMAT score of applicants from IT applicant pool has gone up tremendously. The average GMAT score in the this pool is 730, so it is entirely your call if you want to apply with your current GMAT score or not."

So, if I do fall under the category of 'IT applicants' then I know that it would need a GMAT score close to 730 to beef up my profile. If I don't (say I fall under the 'consulting' category), I guess a lesser score would be sufficient.

Could you please reflect?

- thanks.

Raghav,

Your chances of being a successful candidate depends on your entire profile. The industry that you belong to matters very little here. The key things taken into consideration are

· Academic record

· Work experience (quality & depth of your work experience, industry insights)

· GMAT score

· Leadership potential

· Communication skills

· Career aspirations

Quality in each and every component of your application is essential to be successful. We recruit students who are intrinsically bright and are decent performers in all the areas they are exposed to.

Hi,

I work as a retail domain consultant (business consulting) for the consulting arm of a leading IT services company. I have good international exposure and my current role warrants me to engage with senior executives (C-level/VP/Directors) in global retailer organizations. Would I fall under the category of "IT applicants" as per ISB's classification?

Your answer would help me gauge my chances of making it to ISB in 2009.

- thanks.

To apply to ISB you need to have minimum two years of work experience. If your internship was part of your MCA course then it will not be considered as work exp.

Laasya,

Prima facie I would say your profile would be suitable for admission to the ISB.I would like to add that the admissions to ISB are very competitive and your actual admissions will depend on the quality of your application which include essays, your past academic record, your GMAT score, the recommendation you get from the reviewers whom we will contact and your performance in the interview ( assuming you are called for the admission interview).

Harini,

It’s always better to apply early as the competition simply intensifies with each passing year. I think you will probably have to compete with less number of applicants in 2009 than 2011. Moreover, the average work experience of any MBA class in a global business school is 5-7 years. Only around 10% of the batch will have an experience of 8 plus years.

Also the question is, when should you do your MBA? This is something you need to ask yourself because you alone know whether the right time to pursue a management programme is now or a couple of years later. This is because people normally opt for a management programme when they have identified certain skill gaps. Essentially, you have to assess if there are any gaps between what you are at present and what you aspire to be in the future and if an MBA can bridge effectively the gap between these two levels.

Hi,
I am currently having 7 years of experience with a reputed IT firm.

I want to pursue my MBA through ISB.However, due to some personal commitments I am having to postpone it to 2011 when I will be 10 years experienced.

When weighed against my current 7 years of experience, do I stand a better chance of pursuing ISB in 2011 or in 2009?

Kindly suggest.

Lakshaya,

You have a decent GMAT score. I will suggest that you work hard on your essays and evaluations. You must highlight your leadership skills and international experience in your essays. Also emphasize on additions to your profile in the last one year.

Re-applicants and fresh applicants are treated at par. In fact, in the current batch we have around 80 re-applicants.

Hello Mam,
I applied in ISB for class of 2009 and was shorlisted for interview but was not offered final admission.
I will be reapplying this time. In the last year I have gained significant leadership and international experience and worked more on my business plan. I have also been working on improving my communication skills as suggested in the interview feedback.

I would be highly obliged if you can kindly answer my following queries -
- I want to know what else should I try to improve/add as a re applicant.
- My GMAT score is 730/5.0 should I try to improve that too? Considering I am of IT background.
- Is it true that first preference is given to fresh applicants?

Thanks and Regards!
Rahul
