Hi Admissions Team,

Thanks for the advice. I am from IT background and I understand that I should have very good GMAT score and strong Essays & Recos to back my self for the admission. Are there any more factors which can enhance my chances for admission into the ISB to cover up my average academis.

Thanks,

Hello,

I am Vamshi, working in a MNC in Hyderabad. Could you please go through the following and let me know what you feel about my channces of getting into Class of 09 at ISB.

1. Academics: X(CBSE)- 65%, XII (AP Board)- 85%, B.TECH(JNTU,Electrical)- 58%, M.Sc (A SWEDEN Univeristy,Electrical & Electronics)- 3.5/5
Have been certified in Java and SAP softwares.
2. GMAT - preparing to take it this next month
3. Work - Working as SAP(ERP Sofware)Portal Consultant, and will have exactly 2 years of experience by date of admission (April 09). I work in a project which involves co-ordination with 4 different MNCs apart from my company, its pretty challenging one.
4. Extra-curricular Actvities - I am traditional head of a village with a popupation of 3500 people, so I spend a lot of time, money and energy for these special activitis.
5. Interests - have idea of starting a business very soon in future.

Please advice me if I need to wait for next year to strengthen my changes of being admitted to ISB or my profile is worth a trial in this cycle itself.

Thanks,

You must take your reco from somebody with whom you work closely. In your case, you should take it from your reporting manager.

Hi ,

Thanks for boosting my confidence. I plan to apply the next year. I had one more query.
Can we get The Letter of Recommendation from a person who is not our manager but whom we are reporting to in our office. What I mean is that in our company a person at G40 level and above is a manager. But he delegates his work to employees at G30 level.I currently report to a G30 and he decides my rating.Since I closely work with him so he knows my contribution better. So whom should I ask a letter of recommendation from?

Also please tell me what I should do in this year to make my application stronger.
Thanks in anticipation.

Your qualifications are perfectly fine. In the past, we have seen that the second cycle is more competitive as compared to the first one. Also, a lot depends upon the quality of applications we recieve in that particular cycle. If you have a strong application then it does not matter which cycle you apply in.

You have a good profile. Your exp of 2+ years will not be a hindrance in any way. You should dfinitely apply to ISB. However, I would like to add that the admissions to ISB are very competitive and your actual admissions will depend on the quality of your application which include essays, your past academic record, your GMAT score, the recommendation you get from the reviewers whom we will contact and your performance in the interview ( assuming you are called for the admission interview).

I took my GMAT on 16th Aug and scored 720(50Q,38V) AWA-6.
Background :
I have a work-ex of 22 months in one of the leading MNCs in India as of now.(this would be 2yrs by October when I am planning to apply to ISB)
I completed my Engineering from one of the premier institutes in India with an above average GPA of 8.2/10.
My academic track record has been very good throughout my career(Scored above 85% most of the times).
I was actively involved in organizing national level fests at college level being front-runner for same, have completed certifications in financial markets(My interest is in Finance), certificates at national level in various competetive exams during my schooling years and received the highest proficiency award in the school. These are some of of my achievements.

Please let me know whether my profile would be suitable for ISB. My main concern was that I would be having an experience of just over 2 yrs at the time of applying. Is this going to be a hindrance.
Thanks a lot in advance

I am working as the Team Lead in a reputed IT MNC. I have a total work exp of 3 yrs as of now, a GMAT score of 710 and an above average academic record with a couple of scholarships and awards. I have done my graduation (BE) from one of the reputed institutes in North India.
As a student, I was involved in various extra currics and event management activities:
- President of the Electronics Society in the college
- President of the ECMAA (Alumni society of the college)
- Winner of the various contests such as GD, Paper presentation etc.
- Captain of the cricket team
- Was the President of the technical fest held in the college

Professionally, I have achieved unprecedented deadlines and performed exceptionally well in each and every work assigned to me. In addition to my usual responsibilities, I am performing the role of Quality Assurer and Metrics Measurement Coordinator also. I received an award from my client for my consultancy provided to it. I have been participating in the various cultural activities also at my workplace and received accolades also for them. There are some more things that I am not mentioning here.

Now, considering my profile, I would request you to provide me some insights - where I stand and what I need to stress on to be sitting in the ISB class of April, 2009.

Vikas,

Prima facie I would say your profile would be suitable for admission to the ISB. I would like to add that the admissions to ISB are very competitive and your actual admissions will depend on the quality of your application which include essays, your past academic record, your GMAT score, the recommendation you get from the reviewers whom we will contact and your performance in the interview ( assuming you are called for the admission interview).
Regarding GMAT score, please not that the average score in the IT applicant pool is 730 for the current batch. I hope this figure will give you some idea about how much you should target.

Hello,

I have just taken my GMAT and got a score of 650. I have a total of 3.5yrs(current) of work experience out of which 1.5yrs was in the US for an IT solutions company. For the last 2 yrs I have been working for a leading MNC in India. I have a BS in Computer Engg from Drexel University in the US. With my current profile, and the 650 GMAT score (6 on AWA), and a good work on the application alongwith the essays, what are my chances for admission. Or is 650 too low a score that I should think of taking the GMAT again and apply in the second round.

Your response would be much appreciated.

Thank You.

Aditya...

Hi Sir/Madam,

I'm a Sr. Software Engineer working in a very reputed IT MNC from past 3 year. I've not got very good marks in my scholing and are in the range of 70%-80%. But, I got 23 rank in my engineering exam and did my B-Tech from one of the top most colleges of the North India. I'm giving my GMAT on first week of Sept 2008 for the first round of ISB. But I just wanted to know how much will be the desirable score for me with my profile. I've worn lots of hats in my educational and professional career. Few of them are listed below:

-- Won lots of awards in School, in sports (atheletics, swimming etc).
-- Won lots of awards in other cultural activites such as painting competition, Quizes, inter-school skits etc.
-- Was the captain in my school for assembly activites. (and off course was leader in my every class and section).
-- Was the school representative in inter school science fest competitions.
-- Attended the mountaineering Camp and was the leader of my group in the Camp. Also received an award there for best performer.
-- Was a part of National Cadet Corps (NCC) and attended NCC camp and received certificate of recognition in the list of best cadet.
-- After my 12th, I prepared for my engineering and simultaneously worked one year as a sales representative in a private firm and won "Customer Hero" award there.
-- During my engineering, I participated in lots of inter-college fests and was recognised as best dramatis personae.
-- During my engineering, I used to participate in the college LAN activites every year and was among the main organisers of LAN activites in college.
-- I was the the part of college fests organinising committee and worked as leader for two years.
-- I'm a part of the NGO, which I joined when I was in my 3rd year of my college, and I worked part time for that NGO untill my engineering completed.
-- I got my B-Tech degree with honours and I got 72% marks. Since the marking was quite stringent in our college, with my 72%, I was among the top five students of my class.
-- After engineering I worked full time in that NGO for 3.5 months for child care and for education awareness in children. I'm still a part of that NGO.
-- After that I joined an IT MNC (in which I was placed through college) and since then I'm working in IT.
-- I've won many awards in my organisation such as best employee, best work performance(for every product I worked), Early Bird award etc.
-- I've provided the logo for my organisation Deptt. and my 3 logos were selected by worldwide employee committe for the Deptt Logo.
-- I'm a part of the Ambassadors group(elite group) of my organisation from past two years. This group picks employees having considerable leadership, innitiative, innovation skills etc.
-- In my 3 years of experience in IT, I've written five invention disclosures.
-- I worked in US for considerable amount of time and won award there for my good performance.

There are lot many other awards and achievemnts which I'm not putting here. Also I've the qualities in me which I can anyways prove in my essays/SOPs. But considering this profile, I wanted to know how much score do I need to get myself secure in ISB?

Thanks.
