good morning,
im working in merchant navy as an officer for last 5 years. im holding chief officer's rank at the moment. i will be comoleting my Master's rank exam next year. i belive Bombay university now recognises the Master's competency certificate equivalent to graduation degree. This hasnt been there earlier which denied further studies for our proffesion's master mariners. Lying the darkness of ignorance, and going by mere the academic qualification, all colleges have been denying the merchant navy officers from gaining any futher knowledge through formal education.i would like to study in our esteemed college. i hope atleast the ISB , which includes a variety of proffessions, gives us too an optortunity too....
do u admit merchant navy officers?

Vasudev,
If you are applying with Master Mariner’s Certificate you will need to obtain an equivalency certificate from Mumbai University certifying that your course is equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree.

Dear Madhu,
ISB only offers one year programme and not a two year programme. If you are planning to apply this year, then by the start of April 2009 you should have 2 years of work exp.

Good day
well am a marine engineer myself looking at B-school options. just so happens i happen to be Madhus junior from college.
though i have a singular doubt regarding the work ex specially regarding that related to seafarers. I have been to sea since Feb'07. However since ours is a contractual form of employment, does the work ex that counts is only time spent at sea? or a cumulative.Keeping in mind that though away time at home is technically a vacation period seafarers today have to continuously keep upgrading ourselves through various self-sponsored or company-sponsored programs and seminars. This as well as higher competency examinations.
And hence the doubt. Would appreciate if the moderator shed some light on the issue.
