1. will a candidate who has taken GMAT recently be preferred to a candidate to has taken it few years ago (ranging from 3 to 5) ?
2.Is it better to take GMAT in the year in which we wish to apply for schools or anytime we feel comfortable is ok?

1) No. Both candidates will be treated at par. The score is important and not the year in which the test was taken.
2) You can take the test anytime you feel completely prepared.
