D is correct..the problem with A is the sense of belonging.. Natual gas belongs to United states, so an apostrophe after states is essential to indicate that.. also “and supplied” distorts the meaning.. could have been “…,which is supplied…”
Anil’s explanation is excelent.
Just one more thing. let’s simplify the sentence:
Natural gas is supplied almost exclusively from reserves in North America.
and then put the remaining part “the United States’ second biggest fuel source after crude oil” to make sense…
