Let the total number of people be x

Total weight of first half = 180x/2 = 90x
Total weight of second half = 215x/2

Since, safe weight limit of elevator is 2,000 pounds, the statement turns out as :-

90x + 215x/2 395x x

Avg Weight = (180 + 215 )/2
= 395/2
= 197.5
The total number of ppl such that the total weight is less than 2000 is thus 2000/197.5 == 10.12 == 10
Thus Ans is D 10

I think the ans is 10.choice (D).

Avg = (180+215)/2
= 197.5..So 10 ppl can travel w/o fail.
