CR – Vaccine

Dr. A: The new influenza vaccine is useless at best and possibly dangerous. I would never use it on a patient.

Dr. B: But three studies published in the Journal of Medical Associates have rated that vaccine as unusually effective.

Dr. A: The studies must have been faulty because the vaccine is worthless.

In which of the following is the reasoning most similar to that of Dr. A?

(A) Three of my patients have been harmed by that vaccine during the past three weeks, so the vaccine is unsafe.

(B) Jerrold Jersey recommends this milk, and I don’t trust Jerrold Jersey, so I won’t buy this milk.

(C) Wingzz tennis balls perform best because they are far more effective than any other tennis balls.

(D) I’m buying Vim Vitamins. Doctors recommend them more often than they recommend any other vitamins, so Vim Vitamins must be good.

(E) Since University of Muldoon graduates score about 20 percent higher than average on the GMAT, Sheila Lee, a University of Muldoon graduate, will score about 20 percent higher than average when she takes the GMAT.

  1. magnus1 says:

Dr. A is adamant on his point, and would not listen to any proof /study’s result, other proof etc. that says otherwise.
C is the closest to this ‘attitude’.

A – incorrect because it involves giving examples from Dr. A’s side.
B – is equivalent to using distrust for ‘Journal of Medical Associates’ as the reason for his belief.
    D – trusting someone/source and following that person/source.
    E – Drawing a general conclusion.

B is right choice, for even after explaing by DR b that its trusted by medical association he refutes ans sticks to his point, the same way like the milk case

  3. daveparthiv says:

    I agree… B is the right choice.

A is too obvious to be incorrect. I think it is A.

  5. sharat says:

“reasoning most similar to that of Dr. A”, A is the reason for the his stand.. so its not A, B talk about trust on the recomandee, but in the argument Dr A says research is faulty because he believes that the influenza vaccine is useless, not that he dont have faith on research so he disbelieve the vaccine.

I feel Ans which has similar reason as Dr A is “D”
