  1. Kofi DL says:

    Statement 1 alone is necessary and sufficient, but Statement 2 alone is not

  2. Davidov says:

    statement 1 is not sufficient ( consider the cases 1/4 ^ 1/2 > 1/6 but 1/4 1 as well as 5>1 )
    statement 2 is not sufficient ( ( -1/2 ) ^ 3 = -1/8 > -1/6 yet -1/2 -126 -> -5>-126 )
    Statements 1&2 fixes the odd cases and thus the answer is C

    Is x > y?

    (1) x^0.5 >y = this can be written as root of x. x=0.0036 and y=0.0025 OR x=0.025 & y=0.1…cannot determine

    (2) x^3>y = this helps to say x is an integer

    therefore, using both yes x>y.

  4. sumanth toom says:

    Ans C.
    From one.
    assume, x = 0.16 and y = 0.3 . Here, x y.
    x = 4 and y = 1. Here, x > y, and also x^ 0.5 = 2 > y.
    So (1) is not enough to answer.
    From 2.
    Assume,
    x = 4 and y = 1. Here x > y and also x ^ 3 = 64 > y.
    x = 2 and y = 3. Here x y.
    So (2) alone not enough to answer.

    But both together,
    x = 0.16 and y = 0.3. Here x

  5. Venkat says:

    i have one doubt
    if x is negative, what will be x^0.5 ?
    whether positive or negative??

  6. nishant says:

    for the first one i think the answer is
    Statement 1 is sufficient to ansewr the question but not 2
