What is the ratio of the average (arithmetic mean) height of students in class X to the average height of students in class Y?
(1) The average height of the students in class X is 120 centimeters.
(2) The average height of the students in class X and class Y combined is 126 centimeters.

A) Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
B) Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
C) BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
D) EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
E) Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

    i think answer is (E)

    as st 1 gives us only details about X
    ST 2, Tells the combine average of both.. swe cannot determione the ratio X to Y..

    Combining both statements is of no use becoz.. we dnt know howe many students are there.. to get the seprate average..

    therefore ans E

    Should be C. They are asking for ratio: X/Y

    Using 1) & 2) it would be: (X+Y)/X= 126/120
    or 1+Y/X= 126/120
    0r X/Y= 126-1.. there you go…
