The U.S. Forest Service, then five years old, decided to put out every fire in its domain, and within three decades the agency formulated what it called the 10 A.M. policy, directing that fires be extinguished quicker than they had been in the past.

E) within three decades the agency has formulated what it called the 10 A.M. policy, directing that fires be extinguished more quickly than they had been in the past.

E is the right ans.. i think. .!!
tossing between E and D. since the others use “quicker” instead of “more quickly” to describe a verb. Quicker works better with a noun. for example “She has a quicker serve than her opponent”
D
E
D
d
C would be my choice here.
I rule out E because of the usage of ‘has formulated’. The Sentence tends to delve in the past and usage of ‘has’ is inappropriate.
D appears shady because of the usage of ‘more quickly’. This is an incorrect way of using a verb.
would TakeGMAT please respond??
D
C is the correct sentence
C
D
E
To me it is E, 3 decades has been projected as small time span..
And to describe verb ‘more quickly’ sounds appropriate.
D
I think D. I agree with those who say “has formulated” doesn’t work, which eliminates E, but I think more quickly is better than quicker.
b is the ans
its D
pls correct if wrong G team
C is correct .
D is correct.
A,B & C use quicker, which is wrong. E uses ” Has formulated”. The sentence requires simple past ie. ” Formulated”
wats wrong with A
usage of quicker is wrong and formulated is preffered to has formulated
C
I will go with C
Answer is D
i think D
D.
Quicker is wrong usage as per GMAT grammer rules.
D, because of past tense and quick refers to verb here. So, quickly is right
D – Quicker is incorrect – Replace by More Quickely and (E) uses has which is not in line with the tense of the sentence
Hi,
My answer is D as “has formulated” is used where the action took place in the past and is continuing in the present. Thus, the fire deptt. once created the 10AM policy then then are going to following it. They cannot keep on formulating the policy on and on.
TakeGmat Team : Pls provide us the answer.
D would be my choice as well but can ‘TakeGMAT’ end the guesswork and share the correct answer as well as the logic for the same.
D is the right choice.
Explanation:
The sentence starts on with simple past, so the part of the sentence should start with simple past and is rightly present in the given statement (as “decades the agency formulated” ) and then “more quickly” is correct than quicker.
i think “more quickly” is wrong English so D n E goes out of scope, then B sounds correct .
pleas correct me if i am wrong
take gmat team we desperately need ur help in this regard, pleas give the right ans with explanation
