I’ve gotta go with A, none of the other answers sound right. If the portion of the sentence in commas was removed in b, the sentence would read “Researchers blamed the low rate of growth in the harbor’s toad population on lake toxicity as well as on the weather, slowing metabolism and reproductive activity.”

  21. vikram says:

There is a great confusion regarding this answers..you will find B as the correct answer in many guides.
The explanation given to this is as follows:
Modifier problem..”which slowed metabolism and reproductive activity” can modify ohio as well as hotter and humid. That is why the answer is B.
    —————————————————————–
my reasoning: but when u remove which and place it before hotter..it again gives rise to a modifier problem..now it seems to modify weather / lake toxicity..
Any one pls point out the mistake in my reasoning..
