there’s nothin wrong wit t tense there r two actions one is t guessing n t other is he goes wrong. so t ‘have been’ usage is right.

E is not posiible as “would have” agrees with “guessed” only not with “guess”.

A can’t be…
firstly, u cnt guess the nation itself… u can guess ‘it’ to be that specific nation.
secondly, “would have guessed” means they have already done it… where as, we say they are “attempting”…. means action is not cmplete till yet.
thirdly, (MOST GROSS MISTAKE) considering parallelism, the statement, “probably would have guessed Bismarck’s Prussia and been quite wrong” becomes…. “would have guessed Bismarck’s Prussia and would been quite wrong”, which looks so wrong!
fourthly, “probably would have guessed”….!!! too much of ambiguity!!
