Building large new hospitals in the bistate area would constitute a wasteful use of resources, on the basis of avoidance of duplicated facilities alone.
(A) on the basis of avoidance of duplicated facilities alone
(B) on the grotlnds of avoiding duplicated facilities alone
(C) solely in that duplicated facilities should be avoided
(D) while the duplication of facilities should be avoided
(E) if only because the duplication of facilities should be avoided

I go with A.
both A & B should be out ..because avoiding duplication of facilities will not cause wasteful use of resources..rather its just the oppposite
Wat say Mr.Krishna Mohan
(c) solely in that duplicated facilities should be avoided
My guess – C, the rest 4 don’t make sense when you try to reverse and re-read the sentence.
I would go with C.
Admin,
Can you please post answers for all the answered sentence completion, critical reasoning, math, data sufficiency, and reading comprehension questions that were posted three days prior.
Thanks
i would go 4 A
C
(B) on the grotlnds of avoiding duplicated facilities alone
E if only because the duplication of facilities should be avoided
C, D, E three go out as the phrase should be a reason why they are wasteful. c,d,e suggest an act to be done. And between A & B, avoidance suggests more a reason (people’s avoidance of duplicate facilities).
I go with A.
‘C’ is my answer
The correct ans is E. One of the toughest Scs I have come across. Check the link. It has an excellent expln for the SC.

I will go with option C
A, C, D are out of question..They are simply incorrect.
We have B, E
B says:
Building large new hospitals in the bistate area would constitute a wasteful use of resources,on the grounds of avoiding duplicated facilities alone.
However, in above sentence “alone” really seems out of place…If the phrase on the grounds of is being used, then using “on the grounds of avoiding duplicated facilities” would have been enough..alone is signifying that it is being stressed here that this alone can be the reason not to build large new hospitals in bistate area.
That makes it skeptical.
now, moving to E:
Building large new hospitals in the bistate area would constitute a wasteful use of resources, if only because the duplication of facilities should be avoided.
This clarifies that “if duplication of facilties is the lone criterion, then building of large new hospitals would be a waste of resources.”
Comments are welcome.
That makes it “E”…but definitely a very typical question. It is more about not selecting the other choices rather than selecting “E” at first place.
“if only because” is wrong usage. This rules out “E”.
It is typical, but not wrong, lalit. it does not fall out of place.
Guys check this out for explanation on “if only because”

Hence I believe Ramz is correct. Even I go with E.
If you omit “if only” in sentence E, then sentence E would make the most sense.
no kramer….sense changes by omitting “ïf only”
because omitting generalizes the statement but that is specific here and not a general one.
B. only option that carries the meaning and is grammatically correct.
A:verbose and meaning not very clear
C:solely is wrong… writer mentions it as one of the reasons and not the only reason
D:while does not belong here.
E:meaning is clear, but it is verbose.
Where can i get teh correct answers!!!!!?????
B. not wordy, avoiding is parallel to building and gramatically correct
answer plzzzzzzz
I go with A.
In this question “Should” is too definitive and instructive and does not convey the correct message . Hence i would eliminate C, D and E.
Its not that duplicate facilities “should” be avoided. But its one of the basis.
Between A and B, i would eliminate B because “Grounds of” .. “alone” do not go together (Plural / singular). Also, the use of simple continuous “avoiding” is incorrect here.
Hence correct answer in my opinion is A.
Someone please confirm.
E.
E…
I go with A. C, D, E are passive and B is incorrect because of “Grounds of”
Take GMAT, please provide the correct answer with explanation.
B
Option E
