The underline part should start with “those in” we need the pronoun to set the comparison correct.
This leaves us with only 2 choices C & D.
In D the the second sentence is awkward, also the contruction “who comes…..and not buy” is incorrect
it should be “who comes…..and does not buy”.

Hence C is the correct answer.

D should be the correct answer.

There is nothing wrong in the construction “who comes ……….. and not buy” .

On the contrary, the absence of any pronoun before “……… do not buy” in option C makes it awkward and wrong.

D.

It should be read will leave….and (will) not buy….

C and D are the only options with a complete first sentence. However, C does not stop and continues on, becoming a run-on sentence.

Two problems

1) Modifier issue , shoppers in sports goods stores….compared to in department stores….the comparison should clearly compare shoppers in sports and department stores…

2) the remaining sentence is wordy, there is an idea presented and an explanation give…(although i do beleive that there should have been a : instead of a ;)

ANs is D…Take GMAT your response?

IMO C…

C should be the answer. The sentence is parallel indicated by “do… do not… leave”.

D is closer but splits the sentence into two with semicolon (;). Not sure if that could be correct.

I think the problem with C is that in addition to the intended meaning it makes it seem as if, shoppers in departmental stores buy a pair of skis and a boomerang when they come for shopping. That is not what the sentence wants to convey.

It basically leaves two interpretations and hence is ambiguous

The ; is necessary because the explanation needs to be in a new sentence, clause or at least be separated by a conjunction. It cannot just continue with a comma. The rest is known…

In my opinion, both C and D are correct. But D wins by spliting the sentences, which otherwise, would sound very complicated.

D.
Out of C&D, C is looks like continuously running sentence whereas I feel there must be somes break before not purchase…. Thus, D seems more suitable with a semi-colon in the place.
