The upcoming presidential election in the West African

The upcoming presidential election in the West African republic of Ganelon is of grave concern to the U.S. State Department. Ganelon presently has strong political and military ties to the United States. However, the Socialist party is widely expected to win the election, leading to fears that Ganelon will soon break away from the pro-American bloc and adopt a nonaligned or openly anti-American stance.

Which of the following is an assumption made in the passage above?

(A) A Socialist party government in Ganelon is more likely to oppose the United States than is a non-Socialist party government.
(B) The people of the United States recognize their nation’s interest in the political stability of West Africa.
(C) A weakening of U.S. political ties with Ganelon could have serious consequences for U.S. relations with other African nations.
(D) The Socialist party leaders in Ganelon believe that their nation’s interests would best be served by an alliance with anti-American forces.
(E) The Socialist party will win the upcoming election in Ganelon.

A. America fears that the new socialist party would distance its self from us more than the current party. This would only be true if it is assumed that they are less pro-American than the current party.

Mukund:-
” Socialist party government in Ganelon is more likely to oppose the United States than is a non-Socialist party government.”

The arguement doesnt say “non-Socialist party government” is against the US too. Therefore, the answer is D.

D should be the Ans

As there is no mention here that the NON socialist party is the ruling party
We can comment about A socialist party but cannot predict that the ruling party
is Non Socialist…

So D mentions the correct assumption.

I think it is E.

A. Compares socialist and non socialist. Out of scope
B & C rejected for the same reason as A.
D mentions ” Best served by anti American alliances”
is too extreme
E. The entire passage is on the assumption that the
opposition will win.

Answer is D.
Reason is the Socialist party is def anti-US, which can be inferred. now, the public moving with Socialist means Galieon shifting his stand to anti-US.

its definitely D.
the paragraph says that Ganelon presently has strong political and military ties to the United States.this means that non socialist in power right now but dander of socialist winning the election.
D) The Socialist party leaders in Ganelon believe that their nation’s interests would best be served by an alliance with anti-American forces.
is the right answer and not A.
A. Socialist party government in Ganelon is more likely to oppose the United States than is a non-Socialist party government.
there is no point of non socio opposing US so A is out of scope completely
