		<description>Answer is D.
Explanation : Let x be the original weight =&gt; x^2 = 20000 =&gt; x = 100^2. Since the pieces were broken in the ratio of 3:2:5, their respective weights is 30^2, 20^2 and 50^2. Their respective value is 1800$, 800$ and 5000$. (value of a diamond is proportional to the square of its weight) Their combined value is 7600$. The loss is therefore 20000 - 7600 = 12400$.</description>
